• 30/05 10.30 hs Weaving Words, Creating Connections: Exploring Friendship Through Poetry – Cecilia Pena Koessler – Auspicia Pearson

Abstract:

This workshop invites participants to explore friendship, identity, and human connection through a variety of poetic forms. By engaging with adjective poems, 5W poems, epistle poems, and Horatian odes, students will experiment with language creatively while reflecting on the many ways friendships are formed and expressed. Through collaborative and participatory activities, teachers will explore practical strategies, scaffolding techniques, and project-based approaches, to foster creative expression, communicative skills, empathy, and meaningful reflection on friendship, while encouraging participants to discover how poetry can become a space for self-expression, interpersonal understanding, and meaningful human connections.

Abstract:

Do your students —or even you— find poetry intimidating? It doesn’t have to be! When we draw inspiration from real stories, writing poems can become a joyful and meaningful challenge for our learners. In this interactive workshop we will uncover how to turn shared memories and strong bonds into powerful verses, to prepare Primary and Secondary school students for the AACI Poetry Contest 2026: Better Together. 

Join this workshop to delve into the narrative foundations of the poetry writing process. We will see how a story can grow into a poem by exploring everything from visual prompts and word banks to strategies for fostering collaboration and creative confidence. Together, we can empower our students to use their authentic words to put their favourite memories on paper.

Abstract:

This session explores how to scaffold creativity in the EFL classroom through poetry focused on friendship. It offers practical strategies to guide learners from language input to meaningful poetic output. Teachers will experience and analyze activities that support linguistic development, personal expression, and emotional engagement, enabling students to create authentic poetry while building confidence and communicative competence.

• 27/06 10.00 hs Poetry and Friendship: A Creative Journey with Words – Griselda Beacon – Auspicia Oxford

Abstract:

In this session, we will explore the world of poetry and its potential to foster learners’ imagination, creativity, and writing skills in the English classroom. Through a variety of poetic forms and engaging classroom activities, participants will discover practical ways to encourage self-expression and creative thinking among learners.

Focusing on the theme of friendship, we will delve into a range of texts that inspire meaningful reflection, emotional connection, and collaborative learning. Participants will experience how poetry reading and writing can help learners express their ideas, feelings, and experiences while building connections with others.

The session will also provide concrete classroom examples, creative tasks, and practical teaching tips to help teachers integrate poetry and creative writing into everyday classroom practice. Ultimately, we aim to continue demystifying poetry and to show how it can spark learners’ curiosity, creativity, and confidence in English.

• 30/06 18.00 hs The Courage to Write: Teaching Creative Poetry Through Friendship and Emotion – Andrés Felipe López – Auspicia Cambridge

Abstract:

Inspired by the Colombian film «A Poet», this presentation explores poetry as an authentic form of human connection, creativity, and emotional expression in the ELT classroom. Teachers will discover practical strategies to help learners write meaningful poems that reflect personal experiences, relationships, and identity. The session focuses on adapting different poetic forms. Inspired by the film’s reflection on ordinary voices, mentorship, and artistic vulnerability, the presentation encourages teachers to move beyond rigid literary analysis and create spaces where learners feel confident experimenting with language creatively. Participants will explore model activities, scaffolding techniques, and collaborative tasks that promote authentic communication, empathy, and student voice through poetry writing.

Un poco de historia

Todo comenzó en 2022, como parte de las celebraciones por los 95 años de la Asociación Argentina de Cultura Inglesa. Desde ese primer concurso —con la convocatoria My Culture in a Poem— algo especial se puso en marcha: un espacio donde la poesía se convirtió en puente entre lenguas, culturas y generaciones.

Cada edición trajo consigo una nueva invitación a mirar el mundo con otros ojos. En 2023, los poemas exploraron el valor de la democracia en nuestras vidas (Democracy and our Lives). En 2024, los sueños tomaron forma en palabras (What Dreams are Made Of). Y en 2025, salimos a buscar héroes en los lugares más inesperados (Heroes Wanted: Take a Look Around).

Lo que comenzó como una celebración puntual fue creciendo hasta convertirse en un movimiento poético a lo largo y ancho del país. En la última edición participaron más de 650 docentes de colegios e institutos de 20 provincias y tuvimos ganadores y menciones de Mendoza, Corrientes y Mar del Plata.

El broche de oro de cada edición fue siempre la ceremonia de premiación en la Embajada Británica. Este año el Embajador David Cairns acompañó a docentes y alumnos —junto a sus familias— en una celebración que va mucho más allá de los premios.
